1. Critical Printing Rule: 100% Actual Size (No Scaling)
When you print fiducial markers for SLAM pose estimation, even a 2% scaling distortion by printer drivers will introduce systematic distance errors in your 6-DoF pose calculation.
- In your PDF print dialog (Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, or Preview), always select "Actual Size" or "Scale: 100%".
- Never choose "Fit to Printable Area" or "Shrink Oversized Pages".
- Use a digital caliper to measure the black outer border of the printed tag to verify exact physical millimeters before mounting.
2. Black Border and Quiet Zone Standards
The tag36h11 family consists of an 8×8 module grid (6×6 data bits + 1-module black border). To ensure rapid edge-detection under variable lighting:
- White Quiet Zone: Maintain at least a 1-module wide white margin around the black outer boundary.
- Mounting Surface: Mount on rigid, non-reflective matte foam boards or aluminum plates to avoid specular glare.
