Disable "Fit to Page"

In your printer dialog, ensure scaling is strictly set to "Actual Size" (100%). "Fit to Printable Area" will shrink the tags by 3~6%, breaking 3D distance calculations.

2

Use Matte Paper & Backing

Glossy photo paper causes specular reflection highlights under room lighting, blinding threshold detectors. Mount printed tags onto rigid flat boards (foam / acrylic).

3

Measure with Verification Bar

Every exported PDF includes a 100 mm scale ruler. Always take a physical caliper or ruler to confirm the bar measures exactly 10.0 cm before running SLAM experiments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my AprilTag detection distance measurements incorrect?

In 95% of cases, the detector code was configured with a tag size (e.g. 0.05m) that differed from the actual printed size. If you print a 50mm tag with "Fit to Page" enabled, the actual paper tag becomes 47.2mm, resulting in a ~6% depth error.

What is Hamming Distance and why does 36h11 matter?

Hamming distance is the minimum number of bit errors required to accidentally mutate one valid tag ID into another valid ID. 36h11 has a distance of 11, meaning up to 5 bits can be occluded or misread without producing a false positive detection.

Are my tags uploaded to any cloud server?

No. AprilTag Print Studio runs 100% inside your browser using client-side JavaScript, HTML5 Canvas, and jsPDF. Zero data leaves your computer, ensuring complete privacy for proprietary robotic setups.
